Release the Future! World Politics, Youth & Hormones
The youth of today are lambasted for
having a mobile phone centric "it's all about me" culture.
At a simulated United Nations meeting in
Model United Nations is a simulation
of the United Nations decision-making process, using similar rules and
procedures to those in UN
committees. Students take part by representing a
country, not necessarily their own, and debate using the viewpoints of that
country.
Once a year, university students from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond gather.
“Release the
Future! World Politics, Youth & Hormones” follows
delegates in a fly-on-the-wall documentary
when
they go to Auckland NZ attempting to develop resolutions
on controversial issues.
Passion
and politics are very high, youth and lofty ideals are also in the mix, rules
are rigidly stuck to; personalities and cultures clash and social intercourse
levels it all out. This program will have several different
stories juxtaposed showing how decisions are really made. “Release the Future! World
Politics, Youth and Hormones”
will ask whether today’s young generation is ready to take over the reins of
society. ■
This documentary will model
governance procedures; therefore, one of the stories is a close examination of
the development of a resolution within the Security Council and, the pressures
and negotiation that impact on the final outcome.
There are also many human stories that will keep the audience engaged. The
program will show how many delegates have struggled to pay their own way. ■
It inspires the Next Generation to
get involved
in issues that
concern them. It also demonstrates that a passionate
future in the decision-making process is possible and that it is within the
reach of many young viewers, regardless of their background to engage in the
system and make a difference to their
lives and that of their societies.

It
will show future generations that no matter what the argument, the power of
discussion and talk is always better than conflict.■
The
program deals with young people's decision-making ideas, it shows that despite
the bad press, the up-and-coming generation is focused and determined to make
the world a better place.
“Release
the Future! World Politics, Youth & Hormones”
will highlight how decisions are made
in a large political organisation such as the United Nations and the internal
and external pressures that can impact outcomes. ■
It
will demonstrate how negotiations between varying cultures can result in
sometimes bland and seemingly hopeless resolutions that no one is happy with,
but it is the fact that the resolutions have taken place at all which is
important. ■
